Poland is a country steeped in World War II history. There are many historic sites to be seen around the country especially in Gdansk. However there is a lot more to the country than just a war-ravaged past, including the Slowinski National Park consisting of 2 lakes, villages and 19 miles of coast. The Carpathian Mountains in the South make for many diverse nature expeditions. There are many spas, mainly in the South of Poland; some are renowned for their curative properties. Warsaw is the capital and is an up-and-coming European city destination. A surprisingly large country, Poland is probably best explored by a hire car.
